Mayor-Elect Sharon Owens

Our Moment to Maximize a Movement

Mayor-Elect Sharon F. Owens secured an historic victory on November 4, 2025, becoming Syracuse’s first Black candidate elected mayor and winning 74% of the vote that night.  Clearly what resonated with voter was our vision for and inclusively growing Syracuse.  While recognizing our city’s challenges we pressed forward with an agenda of promise and hope. Our campaign platforms are now administrative pillars:

  • Thriving Neighborhoods

  • Public Safety
  • GenNEXT

  • An Inclusive and Growing Economy

  • Financial Sustainability

  • Big Things Ahead

Thriving Neighborhoods

A person's potential for success should never be based on where they live. I am committed to enhancing the quality of our lived experience in all neighborhoods. Syracuse neighborhoods thrive when we understand the health of your neighborhood strengthens the vitality of mine.

Public Safety

Public safety is the collective responsibility of us all to look out for the welfare of one another. The success of that depends on a foundation of trust between the community and those appointed to protect and serve.

GenNEXT

We often group anyone under 40 as "young people", but children, teens, and young adults represent distinct life stages with unique needs. They require tailored approaches that address their stages of development, social dynamics, economic circumstances and family situations.

An Inclusive and Growing Economy

A Strong Economy + Accessible Jobs = Collective Prosperity

People won’t believe our local economy is growing until they feel it in their purse or pocket. City Hall has a direct impact on the local economy by enabling business growth and job creation. That impact must be inclusive of all of Syracuse's residents.

Financial Sustainability

Achieving financial sustainability is critical so we can position Syracuse to take advantage of the unprecedented economic opportunities that lie in front of us.

Big Things Ahead

There is dynamic change and promise ahead of us, while being keenly aware of the challenges before us.  I have urgency and hope for both.

As the 55th Mayor of Syracuse I walk into a transformational moment for our city.

These pillars must and will be rooted in the mission to improve the quality of life and human condition of people who live, work and play in Syracuse, New York.

Establishing a Transition Team will assist Mayor-Elect Owens to prioritize elements of her winning platform; and identify new strategies and best practices for efficient and effective public service that benefit Syracuse.

Together we are Maximining the Moment and Creating a Movement of collective growth and opportunity for us all.  It’s our time Syracuse!
