Assemblyman Al Stirpe, AFL-CIO, and IUPAT District Council 4 Endorse Sharon Owens for Mayor

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Democratic and Working Families Party candidate for Mayor of Syracuse Sharon Owens announced she received the endorsements from Assemblyman Al Stirpe, the Greater Syracuse Labor Council (AFL-CIO) and the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) District Council 4.

Assemblyman Stirpe cited Owens’ proven ability to bring people together and deliver for Syracuse and the region: “I’m endorsing Sharon Owens for Mayor because she’s a results-driven leader who knows that a strong city means a strong region. Sharon will bring people together to strengthen neighborhood safety, expand housing options, and grow jobs. Syracuse’s success drives Central New York’s success—and Sharon Owens is the partner we can count on to deliver.”

The Greater Syracuse Labor Council, AFL-CIO, representing thousands of working families in Central New York, praised Owens’ long-standing dedication to workers: “Your distinguished record of service demonstrates your commitment to the rights of workers, quality health care, and numerous other issues of importance to working people in Central NY. We are proud to endorse your candidacy and look forward to working with you in the future,” said Mark Spadafore, President of the Greater Syracuse Labor Council, AFL-CIO.

IUPAT District Council 4, which represents painters, glaziers, drywall finishers, glassworkers, billboard posters, printing press workers, and prenatal/perinatal healthcare workers across the region, also voted unanimously to endorse Owens at its September 15, 2025 meeting.

Owens said, “Together, we will build a Syracuse that is safe, affordable, and full of opportunity. I am honored to have the trust of Assemblyman Stirpe and organized labor as we work to strengthen Syracuse and make it a city where everyone can thrive.”

With the backing of Assemblyman Stirpe, organized labor, and working families, Owens’ campaign continues to add to a coalition rallying behind Owens’ vision for an inclusive, equitable and forward-looking Syracuse.
