PRESS RELEASE

Sharon Owens Accepts Endorsement from the Syracuse Teachers Association

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Democratic and Working Families Party candidate for Mayor of Syracuse, Sharon Owens, announced today that she has received the endorsement of the Syracuse Teachers Association (STA), a powerful and trusted voice for educators and public education in the city.

The STA, which represents more than 3,000 teachers and education professionals across the Syracuse City School District, voted overwhelmingly to support Owens' candidacy following a series of conversations about her vision for Syracuse, her longstanding support for public education, and her commitment to uplifting students, educators, and families.

“I’m honored to have the endorsement of the Syracuse Teachers Association. This endorsement reflects not just support for me as the democratic candidate, but for a shared vision of what Syracuse can be when we invest in our children, support our educators, and believe in our public institutions,” said Owens. “Our teachers are on the front lines every day—educating, mentoring, and inspiring the next generation. They deserve a mayor who will stand with them, invest in our public schools, and treat education as the foundation of a stronger, more equitable Syracuse. I’m ready to work side-by-side with the STA to make that vision a reality.”

Owens has been a consistent advocate for public education and youth development throughout her career. Her campaign platform includes expanded afterschool and summer learning programs, increased city-school collaboration, and stronger wraparound services that address the needs of students and families both inside and outside the classroom.

In endorsing Owens, the STA cited her deep roots in the community, her history of partnership with SCSD leaders, and her demonstrated commitment to education equity.

The endorsement from STA adds to a growing coalition of educators, labor organizations, community leaders, and everyday Syracusans rallying behind Owens’ campaign for an inclusive, responsive, and visionary City government.
